The Andalusian Dialectic represents a motif that runs through Revett's work: Syncretics, which is a stew of diverse beliefs, habits, practices, and imagery that shapes culture. One of the high points of syncretism was in Andalusia, southern Spain, during the reign of the Moors and the resultant Reconquista, where power shifted back and forth between Christian and Muslim rulers. Unlike the militant shift that was occurring on the other side of the Mediterranean (i.e. the Crusades), the culutural transfer in Spain was more peaceful and fueled the Renaissance. Exchange of knowledge and technology was common, symbolized by the integration of aesthetics. Revett utilizes the tessellations, frequently associated with Islam, as the symbol of this shift and applies it to his work. His goal is to use spiritual geometry to organize the chaos of modern life, and communicate a universal understanding of culture.
