Jon Revett

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work synthesizes design and personal narrative with tessellated geometric abstraction. These patterns become an armature employed as a conceptual framework to process a multitude of experiences and ideas.

Jon Revett is an artist and educator living and working in Canyon, Tx. Born in Germany and  spending his formative years in Austin, he then moved to the Texas Panhandle. There he experienced his creative genesis on a trip to Robert Smithson’s Amarillo Ramp, an earthwork that he has now spent 25 years investigating. He was the primary organizer for the Yellow City Art Gallery from 1999-2001, and a member of the Dynamite Museum in the mid-90s, as well as being the keyboardist in a few Amarillo rock bands. During all these adventures, he remained a prolific painter, even though he constantly explores a variety of media. Revett is an active artist and has completed residencies at Slade College of Art in London, Panik Studios in Mexico City, and at Mariposa Eco-Village just outside Amarillo. He is currently the Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing and Director of the Art Program at West Texas A&M University.
